Incorporated to act as a parent company of Sumai Group of Companies on the 27th May 1981 in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia with authorized and paid up capital of RM 1,000,000.00. Currently the company employs a total of 370 permanent staff which is 100 percent from bumiputera. The initial core activity of the company was in the marine transportation and support services before incorporating engineering section.

Sumai Enginnering Sdn. Bhd has ventured into the hotel industry by introducing the "apartment hotel" concept, the first of its kind in Terengganu beginning 2009. Their subsidiary include:
